  • Teaching Students How Markets Work — Market Changes, Price Determination and Elasticity
In this lesson, we build on the basic components of the market model to explain the complexities of the markets we participate in everyday. There is the perennial question of whether government should place limits on how much may be charged or how little can be paid for products. Being able to analyze the impact of price controls – price floors and price ceilings – empowers students to answer that question thoughtfully and on their own.
  • The Ice Cream Stand
Students will learn about supply, demand, price, competition, and entrepreneurial skills in this lesson. They will put what they learned into action by creating an ice cream stand, to complete with other stands in the classroom.
  • Ups and Downs of the Stock Market

  • Yummy Competition
Theoretical discussion of supply and demand may sound complicated, but experiencing it first hand almost always affords an intuitive understanding. In this lesson, students will learn first-hand that the difference to consumers between a monopoly situation and a competitive one is usually lower prices.
