Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) about Overdrive
1. What is OverDrive?
St. Xavier High School has a collection of eBooks and audiobooks that can be downloaded by students to multiple types of electronic devices. This service is powered by OverDrive.
2. Is our St. Xavier Overdrive collection mixed with the Public Library Overdrive collection?
Our St. Xavier Overdrive collection is separate, however, you can access titles available through the Cincinnati Public Library seamlessly through the Sora app. You can "add a library" through the app - search by zip code or "Cincinnati" and it will pull up branches of the public library. Click on any branch and the entire digital collection will appear when you search a title, for you to borrow without needing a separate public library account. Stop by the St. X library if you want to walk through the process together.
3. What is the web address for our St. Xavier Overdrive Collection?
http://stxavier.lib.overdrive.com/
4. What do students/staff use as their username and password for checking out materials from the St. Xavier Overdrive collection?
Student username = network/email/Canvas login (without "@stxavier.org)
Employee username = email@stxavier.org
Password = home zip code + stx
5. What is the lending period?
The lending period for materials is two weeks.
6. Do multiple users have access to one title?
We do have subscriptions to some titles that permit multiple users. However, most titles are checked out on a one to one model. In other words, one book, one user. When the lending period is done, the title expires and is available for another user to check out. It operates very much like a physical library book or material.
7. Can I renew a title?
Titles cannot be renewed, but you can check them out again after they expire, if still available.
Yes, all titles can be returned before they expire.
9. How do I place a hold on a material if it is already checked out?
Up to 2 titles can be placed on hold at one time. You will receive an email when a title becomes available. You have 3 days to check out your hold after you are notified that it is available.
I recommend downloading the Sora app, and searching / borrowing through that interface (very similar to the Libby app, used by public libraries) :

This link takes you to our consortium homepage – choose St. Xavier from the dropdown menu.
Students log in with the same credentials they use for most of their online textbooks :
